Cleansing is the first production by La Compagnie Gàara, premiered at the French Cultural Centre, Nairobi, in May 1997.

It is a choreographic enquiry on images of cleaning. One way or another the idea of cleaning pervaded every conceivable aspect of our existence. From mundane domestic chore and polite social etiquette to hideous political monstruosity or ritual of social rebirth, the concept of cleaning reccurs in the infintely ephemeral masque.

This work is a quest for a naked truth, constantly crossing the boundaries between dance, theatre and ritual. Cleansing von the third prize of the Festival of African Comtemporary Choreography in Luanda in April 1998.
